Some students concentrate through doodling. At least one teacher doodles during meetings, and I have seen this in a NATE (National Association for the Teaching of English) committee meeting.

However, such doodling takes place on scrap or note paper. If it is on something that is to be presented in a formal context, the connotations of frivolous doodling are not useful.

After a short discussion with my class, one of them found this famous Ted Talk Video. It’s worth a watch by students and teachers alike.

“Doodlers Unite!”
